The investment cost for a black soldier fly (BSF) facility can vary depending on factors like the design, land cost, and local materials used. According to the Eawag publication, “Selecting Organic Waste Treatment”, the capital expenditure (CapEx) for BSF facilities is higher than other technologies like composting, anaerobic digestion and slow pyrolysis, at almost 60,000 USD per tonne. However, the operational expenditure (OpEx) is moderate, at around 700 USD per month per tonne.
