Publisher: WASH for Health
UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) together with WaterAid and development partners, co-hosted a Global Summit to Accelerate Progress Towards Universal Access to Safely Managed Sanitation (SMS) from 25 to 27 June 2024 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Summit was hosted to develop a shared understanding of safely managed sanitation and take stock of what is needed to better support countries in making progress towards reaching universal access. The Summit served as a soft-launch of the 8 Practical Steps to Achieve Universal Access to Safely Managed Sanitation, developed by UNICEF and WHO to guide country-level shifts towards a higher sanitation service level and promote greater alignment between sector organizations.
