Sanitation Project Cycle

Strategic Planning

The process of developing a comprehensive and coordinated approach to providing sanitation services and facilities in response to an emergency or disaster. This includes various planning steps ranging from technology identification and selection, site planning, financial planning and budgeting, implementation planning to the management and operational planning. All planning steps have to take into account existing standards and should include a strategy for transitioning, handing over, decommissioning infrastructure and exiting or disengaging from sanitation activities and projects as early as possible. All planning activities should build on participation and regular consultation and involvement of affected and host communities in decisions that affect their lives.
